Chapter 13 - Blood in the Boardroom

The auditorium was total chaos, filled with the sounds of screaming people trampling over each other in the dark.

Naomi kept one hand firmly on Ethan's shoulder, guiding him swiftly toward the VIP backstage exit.

"Who is shooting at us?" Ethan asked, his voice tight with adrenaline but remarkably steady.

"A professional hit squad," Naomi replied coldly, scanning the dark shadows ahead of them.

They reached the heavy steel doors of the backstage corridor, but Naomi suddenly threw her arm out to stop him.

She heard the faint, distinct squeak of tactical rubber boots moving slowly across the linoleum floor.

Naomi pushed Ethan behind a massive metal equipment crate and raised her weapon.

Two heavily armed mercenaries rounded the corner, their green night-vision goggles scanning the area.

They were communicating strictly through silent hand signals, confirming their high level of military training.

Naomi didn't wait for them to spot her heat signature.

She stepped out from behind the crate and fired two rapid, suppressed shots with flawless precision.

Both mercenaries dropped heavily to the floor, instantly neutralized before they could even pull their triggers.

Naomi quickly moved forward, securing their weapons and kicking their radios out of reach.

She picked up one of their discarded night-vision headsets and placed it over her own eyes.

The dark hallway was instantly illuminated in a crisp, green glow.

"We need to move now, Ethan," Naomi instructed, handing him one of the captured rifles.

"Do you remember how to turn off the safety like I showed you at the range?" she asked quickly.

Ethan clicked the safety mechanism off with his thumb, his jaw set in a hard, determined line.

"I am right behind you, Naomi," he promised.

They were going to have to fight their way out of this building, one bloody step at a time.
