Chapter 15 - The Predator's Game

Naomi spent the next hour transforming herself back into the ruthless tactical operator she used to be.

She strapped a Kevlar vest over her chest, secured multiple blades to her boots, and loaded an arsenal of specialized ammunition.

Ethan watched her prepare, feeling a deep, profound respect for the incredible woman standing in front of him.

"You are going after Victor alone, aren't you?" Ethan asked, leaning against the concrete wall.

"I am trained for asymmetric warfare, Ethan," Naomi explained, sliding a combat knife into its sheath.

"If I go out there alone, I am a ghost."

"If I take you with me, I have to worry about a highly visible target."

Ethan nodded slowly, completely understanding the cold logic of her plan.

"Margaret will be here in ten minutes to guard you," Naomi told him, walking over to stand directly in front of him.

"Promise me you will not leave this bunker under any circumstances."

Ethan reached out and gently cupped her face in his hands.

"I promise," Ethan said softly. "Just make sure you come back to me, Naomi."

She leaned in and kissed him quickly, a silent vow passing between them in the cold room.

Naomi slipped out of the safehouse and disappeared completely into the rainy, dark city streets.

She didn't need to guess where Victor Volkov was hiding.

She had already recognized the faint, metallic background noise on the burner phone call.

It was the distinct sound of the shipping cranes at the abandoned South Boston docks.
