Chapter 16 - Vanessa's Mistake

The abandoned shipping yard was heavily guarded by men carrying automatic rifles and military-grade radios.
Inside a rusting, massive warehouse, Victor Volkov sat on a crate, smoking his cigar and checking his expensive watch.
Vanessa paced nervously back and forth across the damp concrete floor.
"Why haven't they called back yet?" Vanessa demanded, biting her perfectly manicured nails.
"Patience is a virtue that you clearly lack, Ms. Sterling," Victor sighed, looking at her with growing annoyance.
"I am paying you millions of dollars to ruin them!" she shrieked hysterically.
Victor slowly stood up, brushing some imaginary dust off his tailored suit.
"You are not paying me anything, little girl," Victor corrected her in a cold, deadly tone.
"You brought the police and federal agents directly to my supply chain because of your stupid personal drama."
Victor snapped his fingers, and two of his massive guards immediately grabbed Vanessa by her arms.
"What are you doing?" Vanessa screamed, struggling wildly against their iron grips.
"You are a massive liability," Victor stated simply.
"Once Whitmore transfers his money to buy his life, I am going to throw you into the ocean."
Vanessa's eyes widened in sheer, unimaginable terror as the reality of her situation finally hit her.
She had tried to play a dangerous game with real monsters, and she had completely lost.
Before she could scream again, a sudden, heavy metallic thud echoed from the roof of the warehouse.
Victor immediately drew his weapon, motioning for his men to spread out into defensive positions.
Suddenly, the warehouse's main electrical breaker sparked and exploded violently.
The massive building was plunged into total darkness, lit only by the faint moonlight shining through the broken windows.
"Find her and kill her!" Victor shouted into the darkness.

A terrifyingly calm voice echoed from the steel rafters high above their heads.
"You really should have done your research on me, Victor," Naomi whispered from the shadows.
